[Preview] Aiming for first win in five games with the pressure of home games. In the match against Nagoya, they held the ball and opened up the opponent's defense.
Gamba lost to Kashiwa by the smallest margin of victory, suffering their first consecutive losses of the season. Although they lost two consecutive games without scoring a goal, JEBALI, who had two chances to score in the Kashiwa match, also said, "Despite our chances of scoring, we were unable to score. However, there were no difficulties in terms of teamwork or formation," and he expressed some satisfaction with the new formation used by Head Coach Poyatos for the second consecutive game.
Gamba has not won in the last four league games, but with some players out, now is the time to be patient. Gamba has overcome difficult times in the past two seasons, and Head Coach Poyatos, who usually does not like to make excuses, emphasized, "We will be able to show the real Gamba when our winger returns from injury. For now, we need to be patient and work together to gradually create momentum."
Gamba will be aiming for their first win in five games in front of their home fans who have gathered with faith in their team's victory, but the path to achieving this will be to embody the style they are aiming for this season.
"This year, Gamba is a very offensive team, so it will be important to have the ball,"Head Coach Poyatos. Unlike last season's style of quick attack from good defense, this season's goal is to improve ball possession. The offensive power of Ravi, who reigns in the midfield, is a definite strength of Gamba, but that is why the lesson learned from the Kashiwa match is so important.
"If we can break the opponent's first line, they will suffer, and if it doesn't work out, we will suffer," said Head Coach Poyatos. In Nagoya's victorious games, Matheus and Nagai pressed aggressively from the front line to limit the opponent's build-up, but the key is how courageous they are in moving the ball.
On the other hand, Nagoya's back line also functions as the first step in an attack. "If we don't go and steal the ball to take control, we won't be able to keep it for long," says Mitsuda. This season, in the games where Gamba has been playing well, JEBALI and Mitsuda have also functioned as front line defenders. Effective defense from the front line seems to be a key to keeping the team compact.
Nagoya is currently in 19th place in the league, but under Head Coach Hasegawa, they won the Levain Cup last season, so there is no doubt about the team's strength.
Although they lost to Shonan 1-2 in the previous round and missed out on a third consecutive win, the team's condition is improving. Nagoya has conceded the worst number of goals in the league, and has only conceded one goal in nine games. "I feel responsible for not scoring in the goal net against Kashiwa. As a striker, I want to pursue scoring goals with responsibility," said JEBALI.
On the other hand, they still need to be careful of their offense, which has scored 11 goals so far, tied for 5th in the league. In addition to defensive midfielder Inagaki, who has scored the most goals on the team with 3, Sato, who previously played for Gamba, has also scored 2 goals. Nagoya does not rely on a specific goal scorer, but they have Matheus and Junker, who made his first appearance of the season in the previous match against Shonan, as well as the experienced Nagai, in the front line, so Gamba cannot afford to let them slip away even for a moment.
By effectively holding the ball and breaking through Nagoya's defense, Gamba embodies the idea that victory awaits them.
