Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "I think the first and second halves of the game played very differently. I think Albirex continued to outperform us in the first half. I think one of the reasons for this was that we had a hard time putting pressure on them. We were able to steal the ball a few times and there were scenes where it looked like we could have done some damage to them, but we just couldn't put pressure on them. In the second half, I think we were able to regain our momentum, including with some substitutions, and as we did, we came close to turning the game around. We made one mistake and the game became a little more open, but we were able to play our character and show our fighting spirit until the end, and I think that's why we were able to tie the game in that way."
Q: "In the first half, your pressing didn't go so well. What was the reason for this and what did you do to counter it?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "The reason was that Akiyama dropped back to create three players for the build-up, and there was a scene where our MITO was biting into another player in the middle, causing a gap, so we corrected that at halftime. Also, there was a scene where we lost the ball immediately after winning it back, so there was a gap in our pressing against the opponent, and our play after winning it wasn't good in the first half, so we adjusted our pressing at halftime and brought in Netaravi to get the momentum back."
Q: "It looked like you switched players Kurata and Alano midway through the match. Was that just by chance or was that intentional?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I always give them flexibility. Sometimes I say it myself, and sometimes it's between the players, so we always keep that flexibility in mind. Right now, we don't have players like WELTON or Okuno, and we don't have a wing player, so Kurata and Juan Alano are doing it, and they're not wing specialists, so we're trying to find out how those players can play, so if it's easy for the two of them to play inside in attack, we're trying to find that shape through trial and error."
Q: "Regarding the last penalty taken by Usami, if he is in perfect condition, I think he is a player you would want to use from the beginning. If he scored, it would be a tie, but if he missed, it would almost certainly be a loss. What do you think about his presence?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "Takashi himself is not in bad shape, and is always ready to fight. However, when I look at the April calendar, we have a long string of consecutive matches, so I think we need to use the current members well, and there are schedules where we have to play another match 48 or 72 hours after one match, so for example, we have the Machida match and the Kashiwa Reysol match, so I'm thinking about what members we should use in those situations. However, Takashi himself is not in bad shape at all, and I think he is always prepared to fight."
