Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "First of all, I would like to congratulate the players. In the second half, they showed their desire to win. I think the reason the opponents were able to hold the ball in the first half was because we lost the ball too easily due to passing mistakes. Frontale is a team full of talent, so I think it was a tough first half for us. In the second half, we were very aggressive and pressed well, so I think we made it difficult for them. I'm very happy and pleased with this important win and the three points."
Q: Earlier, in your hero interview, you said that the Head Coach scolded you a lot at halftime. What did you correct at halftime?
Head Coach Poyatos: "I know Shota FUKUOKA Shota really well, and I knew from the beginning that he wouldn't be attacked by Gomis today, so I told him to show his reaction from the first half, since Gomis is a great player and a really difficult player, good at using his body and controlling it. Overall, I told the players to make good situational judgments. In particular, I told the players to make good situational judgments, including the timing to get into the wing, so that both fullbacks can move up firmly, and that (Usami) Takashi can play closer to the box."
Q: "At the beginning of last year, when we were struggling to win, Head Coach said that you didn't have much confidence in the team. But today's win, including the two goals scored by the center backs from set pieces, makes me feel that Gamba has become a tougher, more cunning team. What do you think about that, Head Coach Poyatos? And what do you think is the reason for the change in the team?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "It's difficult to give a precise answer to this question, but I think the team is able to fight when it's really tough and they either give up and quit or they respond well, and I think the whole team is united in where they want to go. So the team has shown that they can endure these difficult moments, and the new members in particular have injected a strong mentality. In particular, players like Shin (Nakatani), Jun (Ichimori), and Tokuma SUZUKI, whose names don't come up often, and of course there are existing players like DAWHAN among them, have given the team a strong mentality. Similarly, I think it's true that winning is the biggest help to the team. But it's difficult to give a precise answer to this question."
Q: It was Fukuoka's first goal in the J1 League, but as one of the players you've known well since your time in Tokushima, can you tell us about his evaluation of him, his cheerful personality, and the role he plays in the team?
Head Coach Poyatos: "He's a really important player, both to me and to the team. I think his teammates respect him, and I think he respects me too. With the hectic schedule and all the travelling going on, I think his cheerfulness helps the team even in tough times. He fights against himself in the game, and sometimes he has a hard time showing his true character when things get tough, and he makes errors, but I think he's proven that to the team."
