Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "That's right. I think that as a team, we received too much punishment. The game was going smoothly and neither team had any chances, but I think that our defense was weak in the second half, and although we are working on improving this as a team, we lost points today because of our weak defense. Looking back on the game as a whole, there were some scenes where we were in control, and we were able to push forward at the end, so I think it's important to be able to score in those situations."
Q: "Today, Usami and Miura started on the bench. What was your game plan?"
Head Coach Poyatos said, "I started the two players on the bench to give them a rest. With the two-day break regulation, the away game, the hotel stay, the travel, and the fact that the match was held under difficult circumstances, I thought they needed a rest, so I gave them that rest. I don't mean this as criticism or an excuse, or that we lost because of the travel, but I think it was a tough schedule not just for us, but also for Nagoya, so rather than making excuses for ourselves, I thought that a two-day break was tough for all the teams."
Q: "You used Handa as a right winger in the middle of the game. Was that because you wanted to apply pressure from the front as a whole? What was the intention behind using him?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "The change in position for MATHEUS Caldeira Vidotto De Oliveira had an impact. He played on Handa's side throughout the first half, but in the second half he played on Kurokawa's side. It was a substitution to adjust the defense, and I think it went well in that respect. I personally think that MATHEUS Caldeira Vidotto De Oliveira was substituted because we didn't let him play easily."
Q: "You used Fukuoka and got some good balls from the center back, but it seemed like you didn't get many chances to shoot in front of the goal until the final minutes. What do you think was the reason for this?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "That's right. I think it was a difficult game, and Nagoya played with a five-man back line, so it's not easy to break them down. Fukuoka's strengths are in carrying the ball, getting the ball to bite, and pulling it out, and I think he played a good game, showing his characteristics and strengths. Nagoya had seven players in front of the goal, five plus a double defensive midfielder, and they were playing a good game, so I think it was a difficult game to break down such a team."
Q: Head Coach Poyatos says that he will never change the concept, but I think from the outside, he is thinking that something needs to be changed as the results are not coming. Is there anything that you feel as the Head Coach right now?
Head Coach Poyatos: "That's right. As I always say, I want to use the word 'improvement' rather than 'change' or 'alter'. I think the word 'change' gives players doubts, and if they play while having doubts, nothing will go in a good direction, so I want to make sure we make improvements. Also, I think we need to be more aggressive mentally as a team, and we've been working on that since the beginning of this season, but I think we need to continue to improve."
