Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "I think overall we played well, but I'm not really satisfied with the result. Going by the game order, we started well and scored a goal, but then I think there was a moment when we relaxed towards the end of the first half. I would like to criticize myself for that, and I think we need to look at how we closed the game. However, we started well again in the second half and played well as a team. We probably hit the post about five times out of nearly 20 shots, and I think we moved the ball dynamically during that time. I'm really disappointed that we couldn't get the three points in this game, but we'll just focus on doing what we can to win the next game."
Q: As Head Coach Poyatos mentioned, which of the reasons for not winning do you think is more important: not scoring the second goal, or being caught up?
Head Coach Poyatos: "I think we did what we could, and the only chances we had were from a corner kick, and a few other chances, but in the second half, I don't think we really had any chances. So, what I can say here is that we lacked the ability to make decisions, but I think we did a better job throughout the 90 minutes."
Q: "Usami was brought back into the starting lineup and scored a goal, but Ishige, who had been in good form up until that point, wasn't even on the bench. Could you tell us why you chose Usami as a starter and about Ishige?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I'll start by answering the second question. Ishige complained of stomach pain this morning, so we had to remove him from the team. As for the first question, about Usami, while analyzing Yokohama FC, I predicted that they would drop back like this, so I thought that his agility and other strengths would come in handy in tight spaces, so I included him in the starting lineup. As you can see, he created chances but still managed to score goals today."
Q: "Even in your long career as a Head Coach, I don't think you've ever had a game where you hit the post or the crossbar so many times. Even though you created these chances, you felt that you lacked the ability to make the decisions. Is there anything you can do to improve that in the future?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "Yes, I personally think it's really difficult to create the realistic situation of a real match in practice, because in a real match, there's the tension of the match, the atmosphere created by the fans, the points to win, and the score difference in the actual match, so I think it's difficult to create the same situation in practice, that sense of tension. For example, in training, nothing happens if you miss the ball, and conversely, there are situations where nothing happens if you score a goal. But as much as possible, I think we have to create these situations in practice and train, and train and improve so that we can score in these situations."
Q: "I don't think you're satisfied with the result, but it seems like Yamami and Takao, who were brought on as cards in the second half, gained momentum. I think that's a positive factor for the next game. What do you think?"
"I think you're right. I'm not satisfied with the result, as I said earlier, but I think my job is to send the best information to the players so that they can understand and be in good condition for the weekend's Head Coach. I think we were able to create a good development today. Of course, there were some games where we were not able to create such good situations. Of course, this year at Gamba, there have been changes in players and Head Coach, and I don't intend to compare the style to the past, but there has been a change in style, and I said this in the interview the other day, but I think there are many positive aspects to these changes. So, if we hadn't played a good game, I would have had to be very worried, but we're playing a good game, so I think we need to continue moving forward while believing in the football we're playing now.
