Pre-match comments for the Shimizu match (Head Coach Poyatos, Kurata, Mitsuda)
Head Coach DANIEL POYATOS : "This week, we focused on breaking down the defense. We need to be aware of how many players Shimizu will have (in their DF line) and be on alert, but we practiced with a focus on breaking down the middle defense, and I told the players that we want to score the opening goal. Among those, the challenge will be how well we can play as we imagine at home. Our opponents have a solid defense and are getting results, so we want to break down those defenses, and if we make even a small mistake, including with Inui, they will take advantage of that, so I think it will be a really challenging game."
MF10 Shu KURATA "We won the match against Tokyo Verdy, but we don't want to think that we can win this match if we play normally just because we won the previous match. Shimizu passes the ball around when they want to, they switch very quickly, and they keep coming forward. Also, if we let Inui play as he likes, it will be tough for us, so we want to play while keeping that in mind. And for Gamba to win, the first thing we need to do is to play aggressively and win in close battles for the ball. I think that's the best way to win. Also, there are a lot of long balls in the J-League these days, and I think the outcome depends on who picks up the second ball, so if we all keep running and picking it up, I think our chances of winning will go up. When it's time to score, it's going to go in, so I want to keep aiming for it, and I want to play in a way that helps the team win."
FW51 Makoto MITSUTA "I think it's important for the team to win consecutive games, and since we have the opportunity to do so at home, I think the Shimizu match will be an important match for the team as we aim for the top. I have the impression that Shimizu is a team that fights with a good balance between offense and defense, so I think it's important to score the first goal in order to beat them. In the previous match against Tokyo Verdy, not conceding a goal in the first half helped us in the second half, so I hope that the whole team will be careful throughout the 90 minutes to avoid conceding a goal. I'm really looking forward to wearing the home uniform, and it's my first time playing at this stadium as my home stadium. I think I was able to get some of my match sense back in the previous match, and I hope I can do what I can to help the team win, show my strengths, and get a result in the form of a goal."
